We are thrilled to announce Unica UK debut: official selection at Portobello Film Festival in London, UK. The festival will run September 1 – 18 at The Muse, 269 Portobello Road, W11 at Gate Picturehouse, 87 Notting Hill Gate, W11.
ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The Portobello Film Festival is an independent international film festival based in London, which annually premiers over 700 new films, including features, shorts, documentaries, music films, and animation.
Additionally, workshops and talks with top film directors (such as Stephen Frears and John Maybury) are also featured. Admission to the three-week-long festival is free of charge.
The Film Festival was created in 1996 as a reaction to the state of the British film industry, which was perceived as declining, to provide a forum for new film-makers and give exposure to movies on different formats.[4] Many previously obscure directors have been gained recognition in the industry after debuting at the festival, including Shane Meadows and Guy Ritchie. The festival has been dubbed ‘the wild side of Brit Film’ (Metro), “this pioneering film festival” (Evening Standard), “the biggest celebration of independent film in Europe” (The Independent) and “London’s biggest filmic free-for-all” (Time Out). That the Portobello Film Festival shows tomorrow’s films today is evident in the number of ideas first presented there that regularly crop up in the mainstream.

“Welcome to the 27th Free Portobello Film & Arts Festival, UK’s premiere showcase for the latest in filmmaking. What is shown at Portobello today crops up in the mainstream a few years later.
Kicking off and finishing at the Gate Picturehouse, we celebrate 50 years of local architectural masterpiece and shining example of social housing Trellick Tower. The Festival has used the tower as an icon for North Kensington since 1996. Artists as varied as Andrew Logan, Dotmasters, and the Gorillaz’s Jamie Hewlett have designed covers and posters featuring Trellick for us.
As ever we proudly present the state of the art in International film making as well as local movies from the Portobello People’s TV archive of movies submitted to Portobello over the years at the Muse every night from 6pm.
This year’s Art Expo opening at The Muse on 7th September Is latest work from local artist Samantha Mcewan who was a contemporary of Haring and Basquiat in the New York scene of the 1980s and has recently exhibited at Calais and Brussels.
Films are shown in order listed. Entry free all night.
